The pleasure of producing a full tone quality can turn
the scale for a young musician. It is a rare experience on
a fractional instrument, but with Larsen Strings even
half-sized hands are allowed to make full-sized sounds.
Cello strings for full-sized instruments are today
available in a wide range off ering a variety of diff erent
sound characteristics. Strong eff orts have been made to
further improve the properties of these strings, especially
during the last two decades.
In opposition to these eff orts, cello strings for fractional
instruments have been lacking a number of fundamental
properties.
Metallic sound, dull sound and pitch instability during
bowing are problems often reported - the latter usually
due to the very common tradition to apply full-sized
strings onto fractional instruments, leading to
insuffi cient string tension.
Optimal possibilities for the students to freely
express their musical potentials are a key issue for the
development of their careers. Strings with optimal
sound qualities and playability are important key
elements in that mosaic.
Larsen Strings is off ering new fractional cello strings,
where all eff orts are made to off er state of the art string
technology at the highest quality level.
The Product
The new fractional cello strings are designed to provide
a power and projection otherwise only known from
full-sized instruments. A warm, rich and focused tone
combined with easy string response and high tuning
and pitch stability makes these strings comparable with
the best full-sized cello strings known - a new standard
of strings for fractional instruments was the aim of the
development.
The A and D strings are solid steel core strings off ering
the beautiful warmth and projection known from the
popular Larsen A and D 1/1 strings.
The G and C strings are showing a broad, warm and
focused sound with a lot of power and charisma. For
the manufacturing of the G and C strings the expensive
wire core technology was chosen in order to obtain best
possible string fl exibility. In combination with tungsten
as winding material an exceptionally small diameter for
fractional strings was obtained, leading to a comparable
easy string response for such small strings.
